Engaging our Students into a Worthwhile and fun Weekend Community Service: Sargazo Clean Up.
October 3, 2018
The beautiful powder-white sand beaches of Quintana Roo has been unfortunately affected by the arrival of sargazo, (gulfweed) again this year. It causes a negative impact on tourism at this southern part of Mexico.
The Empowering our Youth students collaborated one early morning with the clean up of the "sargazo" at Playa Caribe in Playa del Carmen. The local government and ZOFEMAT provided us with the tools necessary to take out the weeds out of the water and bring it offshore so the truck can eventually take it out from the beach.
